چکیده

We present a polymer based microfluidic dye laser suitable for integration into micro total analysis systems, fabricated by nanoimprint lithography (NIL) [1] in the thermoplastic polymer COC (cyclo olefin copolymer) [2]. The device (se figure 1 and 2) consists of microfluidic channels, with sizes ranging from several mm down to 16 μm, and optical waveguides, all fabricated in one single NIL step. For the laser device, Rhodamine 6G dissolved in ethanol acts as active material, and the cavity is based on multiple reflections from a periodic structure of 16 μm wide, parallel microfluidic channels. Pyrex glass wafers are used both as substrate wafer and cover wafer, and since the refractive index of pyrex is lower than COC they also work as buffer and cladding layers for the waveguides in the structure. Lasing from the device is observed at 577 nm (see figure 3), when pumped with a frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser emitting at 532 nm where Rhodamine 6G has its absorption maximum.

Physically Transient Photonics: Random versus Distributed Feedback Lasing Based on Nanoimprinted DNA

Room-temperature nanoimprinted, DNA-based distributed feedback (DFB) laser operation at 605 nm is reported. The laser is made of a pure DNA host matrix doped with gain dyes. At high excitation densities, the emission of the untextured dye-doped DNA films is characterized by a broad emission peak with an overall line width of 12 nm and superimposed narrow peaks, characteristic of random lasing. ...

Optofluidic Dye Lasers

Optofluidic dye lasers refer to a class of liquid dye lasers, usually on a microfabricated device, in which the adaptive nature of the liquid gain medium allows the dynamical control of the laser properties. Miniaturizing liquid dye lasers onto a microfluidic device not only results in compact, easy-to-maintain and safe dye laser systems, but also provides unprecedented optical performances suc...

A switchable digital microfluidic droplet dye-laser.

Digital microfluidic devices allow the manipulation of droplets between two parallel electrodes. These electrodes can act as mirrors generating a micro-cavity, which can be exploited for a droplet dye-laser. Three representative laser-dyes with emission wavelengths spanning the whole visible spectrum are chosen to show the applicability of this concept. Sub-microlitre droplets of laser-dye solu...

A multi-color fast-switching microfluidic droplet dye laser.

We describe a multi-color microfluidic dye laser operating in whispering gallery mode based on a train of alternating droplets containing solutions of different dyes; this laser is capable of switching the wavelength of its emission between 580 nm and 680 nm at frequencies up to 3.6 kHz-the fastest among all dye lasers reported; it has potential applications in on-chip spectroscopy and flow cyt...

Microfluidic Fiber Lasers

Microfluidic dye lasers (MDL) have recently emerged as promising candidates to facilitate the fusion of optics and fluidics at the microscale. Their primary advantage over gas or solid state lasers is the inherent wavelength tunabililty which can be achieved by changing the type of dye used, the dye concentration, or the host solution. Here, we report on the design and characterization of a MDL...
